Obituary: On Oct. 7, 2009 Esther Halpern passed away.
In the early days of the folk Revival of the 1960s Esther and Ed ran Philadelphia folkiest Coffeehouse at 21st Street and Rittenhouse Square, Esther sang on the weekends in the small venue behind the coffee shop --they called it The Perch Room. Many young people got their first taste folk song, ballads and blues from hearing Esther sing. We'll hear Esther doing a Malvina Rynolds song, "Turn Around" , accompanied on guitar by Gordon Bok.
Esther was also very active in the forming of The Phila delphia Folksong Society and played an important role history of the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
